An evening of Russian, Romani, and Jewish songs with a seven-string guitar.
Russia and Eastern Europe has a long tradition of songs that transcend the categories of classical and popular. The roots of these passionate "romances" extend deep into the folk tradition, and exhibit influences that extend from Roma and Jewish music to Italian opera, and even Argentine tango. For this program baritone Anton Belov and bass baritone Ian Pomerantz will collaborate with the virtuoso 7-string guitarist Oleg Timofeyev--an internationally recognized authority on this genre.
Aquilon Music Festival brings young opera singers from around the globe to the heart of the Willamette Valley. Based on the campus of Linfield College, it is an intensive program dedicated to teaching and performing unknown and rarely-heard vocal repertoire.
