Description
Learn geographic history, how climate change will impact DC, and what is being done to prepare. You'll never see DC the same again!!! While some want to “drain the swamp” of DC, they would be far more productive considering where to stick their fingers! Sea levels are rising and our portion of the Chesapeake Basin is “settling” and Washington DC is projected to see a dramatic increase in tidal flooding in the next 10 – 25 years. In fact, DC is predicted to experience tidal flooding twice as bad as any city along the East Coast! Join Jeff Miller, the DC Cycling Concierge for for another in the series of Conte's Community Rides. This fascinating and enlightening ride explores some of DC’s landmarks and thoroughfares that exist where they do because of our geological and geographic history, and now much of DC is at significant risk due to climate change and this geography. On this 3-hour bike tour we will go rollin’ along the rivers, canal ways and flood prone areas of our great city, which also happen to be some of the more scenic and vibrant neighborhoods. The 10-mile ride will include some city streets, but the route will be mostly on streets with bike lanes, bike trails, and even a few sidewalks (where it is legal to do so) and it will include several stops. All bike types welcome, but if you have a choice bring your more comfortable ride with regular pedals (clipless pedals may not be as fun given all the stops and sites we'll be checking out). The ride will be capped at 20 people max so please RSVP today! Cycling is my passion. D.C. is my city. The DC Cycling Concierge is an extension of my personal and professional passion to share the benefits and joys of bicycling. I'm a national cycling expert with 20 years as an executive leading the charge for better biking. I’ve biked across this great country and more than 20 others around the world. As a D.C. local, I ride every single day, whether running errands, with my kids, or getting out on to the back roads of the beautiful countryside for a leisurely ride or challenging workout. From adventure cyclist and triathlete to bike safety teacher and dedicated advocate, I’ve made cycling my life — and I want each guest to have the best possible experience on a bike.
