Looking for an older small dog companion

We’re looking for an older small dog as a companion for our lonely elderly friend who recently lost her pup companion to old age. Preferably a dog that is less than about 12-13lbs as my friend is not able to lift a heavier dog. We’ve tried petfinder but the costs are not within her budget. We’ve also gone to the Pope Memorial Humane Society and were told that they don’t have any small dogs and that they get mostly larger dogs. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
