This event will launch the Save our Tower Campaign which will help restore the First Christian Church tower.
Hear from leaders from First Christian Church and the community as we make the case for saving our tower.
After brief remarks, you will have the special opportunity to go on a tour of the tower with T. Kelly Wilson, noted architectural expert and Director of the Indiana University J. Irwin Miller Architecture Program.
About the OrganizersThis event is organized by Friends of First Christian Church Architecture (FFCCA) whose mission is to preserve the architecture and design elements of First Christian Church, a National Historic Landmark designed by Eliel and Eero Saarinen. This organization was started in July of 2016 at a time when First Christian Church is in need of help to care for its building and grounds. This organization is dedicated to improving the condition of the building and landscape.
FFCCA is an organization that is operated by an Advisory Board that consists of a minimum of four members from First Christian Church, and a minimum of three from the community. Heritage Fund - The Community Foundation of Bartholomew County serves as the fiscal agent for the organization, and maintains a dedicated fund to which tax-deductible donations can be made. The President and CEO of Heritage Fund serves in an ex officio capacity. Other members are from Landmark Columbus Foundation, Indiana Landmarks, and from around the Columbus Community.
Landmark Columbus is a Progressive Preservation effort that assists in caring for buildings, landscapes, and art in Bartholomew County. It advocates for and educates about these cultural resources through research, conservation, and fundraising.
