Woodside Vineyards' Winery Barrel Tasting Event is an opportunity to meet our winemaker, learn a little about the winemaking process, and see how he works with the wines after harvest before they are bottled. You'll have the opportunity to buy "futures" of the wines you sample directly from the barrel. Refining the taste of wine is a critical skill for winemakers. They must sample their wines as it matures throughout its vintage, much like chefs do when preparing dishes to ensure everything tastes just right. Hundreds of factors affect how wine evolves from oak barrels being used and the natural sugar and acidity levels in grapes at harvest time. Our barrel sample gives wine enthusiasts a sneak peek at what's in store for future Woodside Vineyard vintages as well as insight into our winemaking process — and it's a fun way for the rest of us to get involved with this unique experience. Make a reservation for a barrel tasting! Our winemaker, Brian, will speak about Woodside Vineyards and their role in the development of rising Northern California wine from the 1960s to the present. He'll also show you how to taste wines while sampling two 2020 Chardonnay and Viognier vintages that will please any palette. Brian has been a part of the wine industry for more than three decades. He'll be ready to answer any questions you have about the winemaking process or Woodside Vineyards, San Mateo County's oldest operating vineyard.
