Description

Gain valuable tools on how to conduct a neighborhood walk audit with this free training. Del Paso Heights Walk Audit Training WalkSacramento is partnering up with the Del Paso Heights Growers Alliance to conduct a walk audit using a community-based tool that seeks to improve safety, health, and access to healthy food and parks in neighborhoods. The goal is to share tools with local residents in order to conduct their own walking and biking assessments to identify barriers that make transportation less safe or accessible and to identify opportunities for improvement based on the community’s goals. Walk audits focus on pedestrian facilities, bicycle facilities, transit facilities, vehicle facilities, and land use. What: A walk audit training that will take place starting at Root Cellar Community Garden to Hagginwood Park by foot while identifying any barriers or safety hazards. TIME: Saturday, June 5th from 9 am - 12 p.m. Place: Root Cellar Community Garden (3630 Marysville Blvd. Sacramento, CA 95838) to Hagginwood Park (3271 Marysville Blvd Sacramento, CA 95815) Food/Water: Food and water will be provided. IMPORTANT: Please wear protective clothing from the sun (hat, sunscreen), comfortable walking shoes, and a mask. DPHGA is a partnership formed among local residents who are interested in building and promoting home and community gardens. In 2014 a group of gardeners decided to form a more formal group, calling themselves the DPHGA. This group began a larger effort that would provide a means for collective impact on a larger scale: a community garden project called “Root Cellar Community Garden.” The DPHGA started a massive seeding activity in February 2014. To date, the group has seeded and sprouted over 200 seedlings including fruits, vegetables, flowers, and culinary herbs. Through this common seeding activity the vision is to share these seedlings amongst the DPHGA, plant in the Root Cellar Community Garden, and share seedlings with residents interested in gardening in the community at large.
