SUDBURY, MA — Sudbury police and town leaders are responding after a swastika was found carved into a chair at Lincoln-Sudbury High School this week. In a statement Wednesday, Sudbury police Chief Scott Nix and Town Manager Henry Hayes Jr. said they had been in touch with school leaders about finding who carved the hate symbol. The officials are also in touch with local clergy, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the Middlesex County District Attorney about the incident. "Depicting such a symbol is extremely hurtful to the Jewish community indicative of the evil Nazi intentions," the joint statement said. "Aside from the act itself, we would ask all in Sudbury take a step back, assess how we can improve ourselves while committing to doing your part in bringing a greater respect for all, regardless of one's culture, nationality, sexuality and/or beliefs." Lincoln-Sudbury Superintendent Bella Wong alerted the school community about the Swastika incident on Monday. The school is offering counseling to anyone who requests it.
