Description

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond. Today Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. This years celebration will include performances by African dancer and story teller sister Mafalda with live drummers (Dom Thomas & Joey Harrison) from 1:00-2:00 pm followed by The Joey Harrison group from 2:00-4:00 pm featuring the legendary Sam Reed on Sax. Rich Budesa organ, Leon Jordan Sr. drumset & Joey Harrison on percussion.
