YONKERS, NY — Democratic and Working Families Party primaries will take place June 22 in Yonkers as candidates for county legislator for district 16, county legislator for district 17, city council president, city council district #2, city council district #4 and city council district #6 seek a chance to be on their party's ballot line in November. Who's on the ballot: District 16 County Legislator race: Incumbent Chistopher A. Johnson and Dwanita Crosby are running for District 16 County Legislator. District 17 County Legislator race: Incumbent Jose Alvarado, London Reyes and Virginia M. Perez are running for District 17 County Legislator. Alvarado is endorsed by Yonkers Democratic City Committee, State Senator Shelley Mayer and Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano. City Council President race: Lakisha Collins-Bellamy (Democrat/Working Families Party), Mona A. Hijazin (Working Families Party), Peter Spano and Incumbent Mike Khader are running for City Council President. Khader has been endorsed by Yonkers Democratic Party, NYS Nurses Association and Local 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East. The winner of the primary will face Republican Ron Matten in the general election. City Council District #2: Incumbent Corazon Pineda, Annette Yarber, Jose F. Roman and Cristal A. Suazo are running for District #2 City Council. City Council District #4: Incumbent John Rubbo and Carlos M. Burgos Jr are running for District #4 City Council. Rubbo is endorsed by Hudson Valley Stonewall Democrats. City Council District #6: Tim Hodges and Stella A. Schwuchow are running for District #6 City Council. Schwuchow is endorsed by Civil Service Employees Association and Southern Regional Office Local 1000 AFSCME, AFL-CIO. Unable to appear at the polls due to temporary or permanent illness or disability (temporary illness includes being unable to appear due to risk of contracting or spreading a communicable disease like COVID-19). Unable to appear because you are the primary caregiver of one or more individuals who are ill or physically disabled. A resident or patient of a Veterans Health Administration Hospital. Detained in jail awaiting Grand Jury action or confined in prison after conviction for an offense other than a felony. To apply for an absentee ballot, either by requesting an application or letter of application by mail, or sending an email or fax for an absentee ballot, the deadline is June 15. The last day to apply in person for an absentee ballot is June 21. Absentee ballots must be postmarked by June 15 or taken to the Westchester County Board of Elections by June 21.
