LONG BEACH, NY— Long Beach cracked the top 50 on a safest U.S. cities in 2021 ranking. The list, published by safety and security research company SafeWise, looks at crime reports and population data. Long Beach came in at #40, the second Long Island town after Glen Cove to be named on the list. Long Beach's 2019 population was 33,057 residents. The top 100 cities on the list have a violent crime rate that's 92% lower than the national average and record 79% fewer property crimes per 1,000 people than the U.S. average. "These rankings are based upon violent crime and property crime data from 2019 (the most recent year for which data was available.) We excluded towns with populations below 2,500 (considered rural by the U.S. Census Bureau) and set a population threshold of 17,375 based on the median U.S. population after those towns were excluded," a news release from SafeWise explained. The number one safest city was determined to be Hopkinton, Mass. Do you feel safe living in Long Beach? Tell us in the comments.
