LAKEWOOD, CO — Coloradans who are hoping to get outside, soak up some sun and catch a fish or two are invited to Lakewood for the state's annual Free Fishing Weekend. Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the city of Lakewood are reminding anglers of the city's top fishing spots — Bear Creek Lake Park, Main Reservoir, Kendrick Lake and Smith Reservoir — ahead of the annual event, which will allow people of all ages to fish for warm and cold-water species this weekend without a fishing license. Bear Creek Reservoir is home to naturally reproducing brown trout and stocked with rainbow trout annually by Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Lakewood Park Ranger Luke Wilson recommends trying small worms and PowerBait to lure in the prize-winning trout from the reservoir. Other species include saugeye, perch, smallmouth bass and bluegill. Park rangers are reminding anglers to recycle their fishing lines to protect wildlife and keep parks safe. Fishing line recycling containers are available at each fishing location in Lakewood.
