PETALUMA, CA — A Petaluma man was arrested early Thursday when he ran from officers, then was found with more than a half-ounce of fentanyl, Petaluma police said.
Around 12:40 a.m., officers responded to a report of a person causing a disturbance at 5th Street and B Street and found a suspicious person — later identified as 31-year-old Brent Hansen — behind a closed business, Petaluma police Sgt. Rick Cox said.
Hansen appeared to be trying to force open a door, Cox said.
When the officers identified themselves, Hansen ran off so they started chasing him, Cox said.
As they reached Theater Square, Hansen started to slow down and one of the officers caught up to him and tackled him, Cox said.
"Hansen was taken into custody without further incident," Cox said. "During an arrest search of Hansen's person, he was found to be in possession of over 1/2 an ounce of suspected Fentanyl."
Hansen was booked into Sonoma County on suspicion of resisting arrest and fentanyl possession, police said.
Hansen, who was already on probation, remained in custody Thursday morning, jail records showed.
