Montco Reaches Lowest COVID Case Numbers Since Start Of Pandemic

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — The pandemic continues to steadily wane across Montgomery County, as case numbers plummet from the brief early spring surge. In fact, COVID-19 now has its lowest presence in the county since March 2020. The county's positivity rate is now all the way down to 2.47 percent. "While there's still work to be done, as a County, we should be very proud of how far we've come," Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh said Wednesday. "If you've haven't yet gotten vaccinated, I urge you to so we can celebrate even more milestones soon." A positivity rate below 5 percent indicates "suppression" of the virus. The county has been below this point for 23 of the last 28 days, officials said. There were 198 new cases reported over the last seven days in the county, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health's Early Warning Monitoring Dashboard. That's down from 301 the week before, and a significant decrease from early April, when weekly numbers were over 1,300. The plummeting positivity rate and case numbers come as just over 70 percent of all Montgomery County residents age 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
