Description

DETROIT — Falling debris from a building that has already been the cause of more than $4,500 in tickets has prompted the closure of a street in Detroit. The city's Department of Public Works has ordered a full closure of East Warren Avenue at St. Auburn Street and Northbound Dequindre Street at East Forest Avenue due to masonry falling from a deteriorating building nearby. All traffic is being rerouted to go south, taking Canfield Street to Russell Street, officials said. The owner of the building has received more than $4,500 in tickets from the city's Buildings, Safety Engineering, & Environmental Department, officials said, and the city will continue to issue tickets daily until the owner addresses the hazard. The agency said it also is working with law enforcement to see if there is a potential legal action that could be taken.
