RIVERHEAD, NY — After being shuttered for more than a year due to the pandemic, the Suffolk Theater will reopen on August 27.
"We'd like to thank you for all of your patience and support during this trying time," theater management said in a Facebook message.
"Since restrictions have already begun to ease, work has started behind the scenes. We are diligently working to reschedule shows, organize our calendar, schedule new shows and bring back our staff so that we can bring you back!" the message said. "Our goal is to reschedule all the shows we can so that we can get back to bringing world-class entertainment to the eastern end of Long Island."
Any shows slated for a date prior to August 27 will be rescheduled. Check the Suffolk Theater website or social media channels for news on new show dates.
The theater is an iconic destination in Riverhead: From the moment they first saw the former single-screen movie theater that had been closed since 1987, owners Bob and Dianne Castaldi were infused with a burning passion to restore a piece of history — the building is the only existing example of an Art Deco theater on Long Island — and purchased the space from Riverhead Town in 2005.
The theater opened its doors again in 2012, exactly 79 years to the day since the establishment originally debuted in 1933.
