Job Description: O’Hara Corporation is currently hiring a Purser/ Quality Control Manager to work aboard our factory trawler vessels in Alaska. Experience on board processing ships with knowledge of commercial trawl fishing and fish processing operations is required. We are looking for a motivated individual who is looking for long term, reliable employment. Potential applicants should enjoy cycling between working regular, extended periods onboard followed by long month to month breaks home. Compensation: Pay is dependent on experience Travel from Seattle to Dutch Harbor is paid (upon completion of 75-day contract) Sampling and communication equipment provided by O’Hara Access to insurance and 401K Job Requirements: Basic computer and Microsoft Excel/word skills Attention to details Strong communication skills Heavy lifting (up to 70 lbs.) Must be able to work long hours in a vessel processing environment (14-16 hours per day 7 days a week) Each contract period on the vessel is 75 days The fishing season starts January 20 each year and ends late November to December. The employee must be available to work 75 day contracts, take a break, then work a contract period again Expected yearly time investment on board the vessel: 5-6 months depending on rotation Attend 2-3 paid day training in Seattle, WA before first contract period. Attend 1-day paid debriefing in Seattle after each contract HACCP Certified is preferred Valid driver’s license Experience working on Bering Sea heading and gutting/Amendment 80 fishing vessels highly preferred Zero tolerance policy for drinking/drug use for entirety of contract periods Remain on the vessel at all times during contract period unless otherwise instructed by Captain or Mate Main Duties and Responsibilities: Record detailed fresh fish and finished product related data and log data using Microsoft Excel Report data daily via email to on board vessel officers and shore based offices Analyze and discuss data findings real time with on board factory foreman, officers, other O’Hara vessels, and shore based offices Train crew members on all QC procedures to cover during QEM’s off shift Observe and record factory related activities pertaining to quality and efficiency Work in the factory and occasional sampling/QC related work on trawl deck HAACP paperwork (reviewed by HACCP certified person) Electronic Logbook NMFS Reporting Daily Production End of Voyage/ contract extension paperwork at offloads Offload paperwork Help Dockside offloads (tally when needed) Ship store paperwork Other duties as required Other Duties and Responsibilities: In town errands during offload such as spare part runs, crew airport runs, crew clinic runs, other errands as needed Calibrate scales Special projects as required Work environment and other job requirements: Position is onboard our catcher/processor ships in Alaska Understand and follow instructions, directions, safety rules and procedures Board and exit the vessel by gangplank or Jacob’s ladder without assistance Board or exit a skiff without assistance in all weather conditions Ascend and descend steep stairways and ladders in all temperatures Work long hours in all kinds of weather Lift and carry weight in excess of 70 pounds Work in a cold and wet environment Live and work with others in close quarters Be away from medical care and supervision Share crew quarters, bathroom facilities, and common dining areas with other crew members APPLY HERE: **Please provide a minimum of 3 years of recent work history to be considered.
