CLEET Training in Law Enforcement Contacts of Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder
The Pervasive Parenting Center will host Sgt. Cory Sutton of the University of Oklahoma Police Department, for training in Law Enforcement Contacts of Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The event will be held Monday, January 26, at the Carl Albert State College in Poteau, Business Center, Room at 811, 1507 S. McKenna, Poteau, OK 74953.
This class is free and will go toward 8 hours of continuing education for all law enforcement. This will include 2 hours in mental health training. It will also include a parent panel to give insight into their lives with children on the spectrum.
Sutton and his wife, a speech pathologist, have developed this training to help officers understand people on the spectrum a little better.

Pervasive Parenting Center is a not-for-profit organization made up of families, local educators, community leaders, and health-care professionals. The organization works to provide a better life for the families in eastern Oklahoma who are coping with disabilities. In the past, the center has used donations to help with Sensitive Santa, Sibshops for siblings of children with disabilities, scholarships for students with disabilities, classroom grants for special education departments in eastern Oklahoma, and to bring conferences, trainings, and resources to the area.
