Join Project Success Coalition in honoring the history, culture, and creative spirit and genius of our people. Juneteenth, aka June 19th is the oldest celebration marking the end of slavery in the US. Word came to those enslaved in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865, over two years following the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. This year’s event includes live performances including Gospel, Hip Hop/Rap, R & B, storytelling, African drumming and dance, Spoken Word, Kuumba Youth Activity Village, Sankofa High School & College Graduate Recognition, 2nd Annual Willie Moore & Billy Mason Barber Battle and newly added Crowns Braiding Competition. Our salute to Father's Day includes recognition of men making a difference in the community with our inaugural "Hood Heroes" Awards. Other features include The State of Black Utah Town Hall with showing of film Beloved and discussion on Building Community with the Utah Black Roundtable on June 11th; Nationtime Film & Discussion with the Utah Film Center on June 15th; Juneteenth Flag Raising on June 18th at 9:30 am at the Salt Lake County Building, the Black History Museum Bus, COVID Vaccination Mobile Clinic, information booths, food vendors, and more for the entire family.
