Description
This is a NCBTMB-approved, 16-hour class on Active Isolated Stretching (AIS), taught by Bruce Baltz, LMT, BCTMB Active Isolated Stretching (AIS), also called the Mattes Method was developed by Aaron L. Mattes decades ago as an amazing way to reduce pain, increase flexibility, and improve performance while decreasing the chance of injury. AIS also restores deep and superficial fascial planes. The AIS method is based on reciprocal innervation of muscle tissue. The key is to hold a stretch in place for two seconds before moving back to the resting position. Stretches are often held for up to 30 or even 60 seconds. Holding the stretch for two seconds is all due to the myotatic reflex. The myotatic reflex, or the stretch reflex, is activated when a muscle is stretched too far or too long. It causes muscle tissue to automatically recoil in about three seconds to prevent a damaging and painful tear. AIS takes advantage of this by holding a stretch for only two seconds – just before that myotatic reflex causes the muscle to recoil. This allows clients to get the most out of stretching. Moreover, it provides the opportunity to increase range of motion and overall mobility much more than with some traditional stretching methods. AIS can easily be added to massage therapists’ skills when working with all clientele to eliminate pain and increase movement and flexibility. Please join New School for Massage, Bodywork and Healing’s AIS class and meet one of the country’s leaders in this technique, Bruce Baltz. This class is open to massage therapists and bodyworker, stretch therapists, personal and athletic trainers, and yoga instructors. Classes will be held on June 8th and 9th at the Tinley Park location, 18440 Thompson Ct., Ste., 102, Tinley Park, IL 60477. The class is hosted by The New School for Massage at the Tinley Park location. Continental breakfast, refreshments, and lunch will be provided and are included in the price.
