Black Voters Matter Freedom Ride & Black Lives Matter Memorial ( Music, Dance & Food) WHY JUNETEENTH EXTENDED: On May 9th 1961, At a Greyhound Bus Station in Rock Hill, South Carolina, " John Lewis recalls his visit and trying to enter a white waiting room. The room was marked white waiting, and the moment he entered the doorway a group of white men attacked him and several other civil rights leaders. They were beaten and left in a pool of blood." Freedom Riders were civil rights activists who rode interstate buses into the segregated Southern United States in 1961 and subsequent years to challenge the non-enforcement of the United States Supreme Court decisions Morgan v. Virginia (1946) and Boynton v. 2021-It is an honor to host the Black Voters Matter" Freedom Ride For Black Voters" as they kick off their journey from the South to Washington, DC. ROCK HILL, SC EVENTS June 23. 2021 |9:00AM -10:00AM | Sweet Tea Cafe To The Freedom Walkway Beginning Juneteenth, BVM will board its signature “Blackest Bus in America” for a voter outreach tour from Mississippi to Washington D.C., making stops in key southern states to rally with partner organizations, meet with voters, and discuss the issues impacting their communities. They will stop in Rock Hill, SC to pay respect to the Friendship 9, Black Business District & The Freedom Walkway. June 23. 2021 |9:00AM -7:00PM | Sweet Tea Cafe On-Site Come and view the Black Lives Matter Memorial with over 30 Pillars paying respect to Black Lives Lost at the hands of police brutality, racism and various compounds of oppression.
