SOMERVILLE, MA — A GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $5,000 for a family that was displaced by a fire in Somerville last week. Unseasonably hot weather posed a challenge for firefighters battling the Melvin Street blaze, which resulted in significant fire, smoke and water damage to the third floor of the home. "The home of Gideon Augustin, a third-grader at St. Paul's, was badly damaged as a result of the house fire on Wednesday, May 26," Mariya Manzhos, who started the fundraiser, wrote. "Everyone is safe, however most of the home was destroyed as well as the family's belongings." Manzhos said donations will go toward the Augustin family. So far, $5,500 has been raised, surpassing the $5,000 goal. Click here to donate. GoFundMe is a Patch promotional partner.
