Description

NORTHPORT, NY — Howie, a 6-year-old male tuxedo cat, is the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Cat of the Week. Howie was dumped in a neighborhood in the middle of the winter, left to fend for himself, according to Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue. Howie has been with the association since a family called it for help. "Howie is a repeat Cat of the Week," Wild said. "Sadly, Howie is still with us because he can be shy when you first meet him, and when that happens, they are often overlooked. However, these are the diamonds in the rough that are the most grateful once given a chance to be a part of a family." Howie had become depressed in the cat rescue's habitats, so he was placed in a foster home. "He has proven to us that if given just a little bit of time and some patience, he will become the sweet and loving boy that he really wants to be," Wild said. "He is quirky and cute and loves to play. He will give you plenty of head butts and loves to lay on a cozy bed and relax along side you. Not a mean bone in his body, he wants so badly to be your friend. All he needs is some time, a small room to get comfortable in, before entering the rest of the home and some soft loving words to make him feel safe and suddenly you will see a beautiful personality emerge!" Howie is fine with other cats, is vocal, and seems to understand people's words as he tilts his head when spoken to. "All our volunteers have fallen in love with Howie, and we know if given a chance, the right family will as well!" Wild said. Howie is neutered, has all his shots, is litter box trained, micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative. If you are interested in meeting Howie, you can head to the Northport Cat Rescue Association website and fill out an application to let them know you would like to meet him or any of the other kittens and cats.
