WAUWATOSA, WI — Wauwatosa Police Capt. Luke Vetter was sworn in to take his place as acting police chief of Wauwatosa after former chief Barry Weber retired Tuesday.
The Wauwatosa Police and Fire Commission is still searching for a permanent replacement for police chief. Currently, the commission is gathering questions from the public for a virtual forum on June 14. Finalists names will be released ahead of the public forum and residents will be able to submit questions online before June 7.
The commission held a special meeting on Thursday, but it was in closed session. It will meet again on June 23.
After the forum, a video of the interview will be released for public review. Then the commission will interview final candidates before making a hiring decision.
Weber had been chief for 31 years, police said. Vetter joined the Wauwatosa Police Department in 2001.
