U.S. Flag Burning Ceremony Coming Up In Framingham

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Several veterans groups will hold an American flag burning in Framingham in June to allow residents a way to dispose of tattered or unwanted flags. The U.S. flag code says burning flags respectfully — either at home or in a larger ceremony — is an OK way to dispose of them. The Framingham ceremony will be held June 13 at the National Lancers facility, 1 Merchant Road. The ceremony is being organized by the MetroWest Vietnam Veterans Monument Committee with help from the Framingham Veteran's Council, National Lancers, Framingham Elks, Framingham Fire Department, Framingham police, Framingham Veteran's Court and the Natick Veteran's Council. The flags will be burned in a bonfire with color guards present. The organizers are encouraging families to bring children to the event to learn about proper flag disposal. The burning will take place one day before Flag Day. "This would be an opportunity for families to participate and teach their children that we are all united under one flag, no matter what our differences are," MetroWest Vietnam Veterans Committee member Ed Carr said in a description of the event. The June 13 flag burning begins at 4 p.m.
