Job Description: Dashe Cellars is looking for winery interns to work this Fall at our facility in Alameda, starting late-August and lasting until mid- to late-October. It's a great opportunity to learn about winemaking as a career while making a wide variety of different wines. This is an ideal internship for candidates who would like to live in Alameda or in the nearby cities of Oakland, Berkeley, or San Francisco. Dashe Cellars specializes in non-industrial winemaking techniques, including native yeast fermentations of both red and white wines, natural malolactic fermentations, large format (i.e. foudre and puncheon-sized barrels) aging of wines, etc. Interns must have the dedication, focus, and work-ethic necessary to create superb wines. Interns have an excellent opportunity to learn all facets of wine production, including: • Must analysis and fermentation monitoring • Crushing and sorting grapes • Pump-overs and punch down fermentations • Pressing of both red and white varietals • Wine movements • Barrel preparation and racking • Laboratory analysis (SO2, Res. Sugar, VA, EtOH, etc.) • Blending trials Qualifications: The ideal candidate needs to be able to follow written and verbal instructions, lift and carry 50+lbs, have a positive attitude, and be detail-oriented. Position requires flexible hours and the ability to work on evenings and weekends during the most intense parts of the harvest. Ability to use a forklift not required but welcome. Laboratory skills for at least one intern a plus. Preference is given to candidates with previous winery experience or on a professional winemaking path of education, but we are able to take a few interns with less experience and a desire to learn.
