Description

Kids in South Lansing can sign up for a small growing space and be guided in how to plant and care for fruits and vegetables. Do your kids ages 5-16 want to learn how to grow their own food and play a part in their community? Sign them up for a spot in the Southside Sprouts children's garden at the Hill Community Garden. Kids will get their own section of the garden to plant, manage, and enjoy the harvest. Their initial visit to the garden will be scheduled with a garden instructor to help them get set up and learn how to care for their plants. Kids will then visit the garden weekly to maintain their plants and can receive additional help from their instructor if she is in the garden (usually Mon-Fri, 8am-3pm). Kids will also be given recipes and activities to try in the garden and at home. Once registered, we will reach out to schedule a time in June for the child's initial training. South Lansing Urban Gardens is a program of South Lansing Community Development Association (SLCDA).  Our mission is to engage neighbors and stakeholders in the development and implementation of programs/initiatives that improve community health and quality of life in South Lansing. These evolve over time based on feedback from our community. Current program areas focus on healthy food access (South Lansing Urban Gardens, South Lansing Farmers Market), recreational and fitness opportunities (Hawk Island Triathlon), and individual/organizational capacity building.
