Identities of applicants will be kept confidential throughout this process.    About the Position The General Counsel reports to the President/CEO. This person also oversees, directs and manages the Office of the General Counsel, which is composed of the General Counsel, a paralegal and a part-time covenants administrator. General Counsel shares the legal implications of anticipated policy and operational decisions in the following areas: Strong negotiation and collaboration skills are a must for success in this role. The General Counsel assures compliance with employment laws, works with the Chief Financial Officer on insurance, risk management, benefits and 401(k) matters. This individual also oversees the covenant enforcement process.  The General Counsel also provides advice on the interpretation, application, and enforcement of Columbia Association's covenants and local, state and federal laws and regulations. The person in this position will also serve as lobbyist when needed. In addition, the General Counsel serves as the Principal Ethics Officer and may be asked to serve as CA's corporate Secretary.  The General Counsel will also oversee outside counsel in representing the corporation in litigation and administrative proceedings brought by or against the corporation. That includes review of pleadings, motions, discovery documents and trial statements.
