Description

Press release from the City of Iowa City: June 1, 2021 The City of Iowa City has contracted the services of Surveying And Mapping (SAM), LLC, who will begin mapping the City's sanitary sewer collection system in June 2021. This process typically consists of inspecting utility features, using global positioning system (GPS); equipment. Their work will be ongoing from June through September 2021. What residents can expect Residents may notice SAM crews working in their neighborhoods as surveying is done. Most of the work will be completed between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Some work may occur after these hours when traffic counts are lower. SAM crews will be wearing yellow reflective vests and hard hats with their company logo, and their vehicles will be clearly marked. Please note that crews will occasionally require access into and through private property, but never in your home. Due to the nature of their work, the City has easements to allow for such access, and crews will be as respectful and as unobtrusive as possible while completing this vital project. At times, sewer manholes may need to be temporarily uncovered in order to allow for their full inspection. Crews will also be be taking measurements and photos at these locations. SAM will take every effort to respect your property, they will replace manhole covers, restore disturbed landscaping, and minimize their impact in these areas. Why is this project important? This work is part of a larger Asset Management project currently underway for the City's utilities. The information gathered through this work will assist with long term planning of utility upgrades and repairs, and will provide us with accurate information to be used for future growth. Crew locations and updates The City will be providing updated crew locations as the project moves forward. Stay up-to-date by visiting icgov.org/SewerSurvey, or receiving notices on the NextDoor social media platform. As with any major project, there will be some inconveniences during the process, but no service interruptions are anticipated. Who to contact with questions If you have questions or concerns, please contact SAM at 660-562-0050 or Wastewater Superintendent Tim Wilkey at 319-356-5170 or email [email protected].
