Description
TRAVIS COUNTY, TX — Travis County District Attorney José Garza swore in two prosecutors from the Williamson County District Attorney's Office as special prosecutors in two open cases surrounding the death of Javier Ambler on Wednesday.
The Williamson County assistant district attorneys will join the Travis County District Attorney's prosecution in the cases against former Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody and former general counsel for the Williamson County Attorney's Office Jason Nassour, officials said Wednesday.
In March, a Travis County grand jury returned indictments against Nassour and Chody for the third-degree felony charge of Tampering with Physical Evidence for events surrounding the death of Javier Ambler. Both cases are pending in the 299th Judicial District Court.
Since the cases will be tried in Travis County, officials said Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick will drop the cases in the county.
The cases likely will not go to trial until at least 2022, in part because of a backlog of cases from the COVID-19 pandemic, authorities said.
