SAN DIEGO, CA — A 42-year-old woman suffered serious injuries when she crashed her SUV into a tree in the Carmel Mountain neighborhood, police said Wednesday.
The crash happened about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on Rancho Carmel Drive north of Ted Williams Parkway, just east of Interstate 15, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.
The woman was heading southbound in a 2014 Honda Crosstour SUV when, for unknown reasons, she swerved to the left and struck the raised center median, Buttle said. The driver then continued across both lanes of northbound traffic before slamming into a tree.
The victim's head struck the windshield because she was not wearing a seatbelt, the officer said.
She was taken to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries, including a neck fracture and a rib fracture.
