BUCKS COUNTY, PA — "Severe" traffic congestion is expected later this week on I-295 eastbound approaching the Scudder Falls Bridge during the morning commute. New Jersey-bound travel at the bridge is scheduled to be restricted to a single travel lane from 6 to 10 a.m. on Friday so construction crews can pour concrete onto the deck of the adjoining bridge span now nearing completion at the Delaware River. The concrete pour was also initially scheduled for Thursday, but that date has been rescheduled due to forecasted rain, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission said. During the concrete pouring, two-mile-long backups with corresponding travel delays of 30 minutes or more are possible on I-295 eastbound approaching the bridge from Bucks County, according to the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission. Pennsylvania-bound travel from New Jersey at the bridge is not expected to be affected. The Commission is warning Bucks County drivers heading to New Jersey during that time to consider other options, like working from home or traveling at a different time. Concrete deck pours at the new bridge span are expected to continue on select dates through June. The pours are weather-sensitive and must be conducted in a designed sequence determined by the bridge's corresponding steel structural supports. The concrete pours begin during overnight hours and continue through the morning commute.
