Chimney climbing needed Help needed at the top of my chimney A pine tree started growing out of a crack at the top of the chimney. It has split the brick apart and pushed a brick off the top. I need someone with a long ladder to get up to the top of my chimney for a simple repair. The repair involves cutting off the pine tree, then laying some mortar to reinstall the brick that fell off, and then smearing the top of the chimney with a fresh layer of mortar to seal up any cracks to prevent this happening again. Once at the top of the ladder, it's probably a 10 minute job. I can provide the tools and materials needed. THE HARD PART: The top of the chimney is approx. 35 feet from the ground, so a really long, stable ladder is needed. Also, the driveway has a slight slope to it, so you need a way to keep the ladder vertical. You need to get at the chimney from the side, using a ladder up against the wide side. The brickwork is approx. 5 feet wide and 2-1/2 feet deep. You can't put a ladder up against the narrow side because the roof blocks off about half the width. I have a 32 foot ladder, it's nowhere near long enough, see photo. It's not practical to reach that corner of the chimney by climbing on the roof. Even if you could stand on the top edge of the roof without damaging it, you would still need to reach up to and over the chimney to get at the work area, not possible. From the top of a long-enough ladder, you would have easy access. The driveway is concrete, with a slight slope, as shown.
