Commemorate Junteenth at PAHMUSA! Join us for a week of fun and inspiring family activities including crafts, workshops, lectures & more! PAHMUSA, Baystate Health, and Health New England invite you to commemorate Juneteenth by experiencing a week of events highlighting the brilliance, creativity, determination, and resilience of black people throughout history. All events are free and open to Baystate Health Employees and families. Events will take place at the PAHMUSA Museum Space, 1500 Main Street, 2nd floor, Springfield Ma., 01115 Please check the calendar below and register to reserve your tickets. MOVIES: Daughters of the Dust (1991): Set in 1902, it tells the story of three generations of Gullah (also known as Geechee) women in the Peazant family on Saint Helena Island as they prepare to migrate off the island, out of the Southern United States, and into the North. (Rating: NR) Concrete Cowboy (2021): Sent to live with his estranged father for the summer, a rebellious teen finds kinship in a tight-knit Philadelphia community of Black cowboys. (Rated:R) CRAFTS: Adinkra Stamping- Learn about the meanings behind Adinkra symbols. Stamp your own cards or calendars. Mudcloth Making- Discover the ancient African art of Mudcloth. Design and take home your own napkin, scarf, or wall hanging. LECTURES and WORKSHOPS "A Journey to Freedom"- Learn about the history of Juneteeth and the importance of commemorating this special day. "Who Were the Black Cowboys?"- Learn about the rich history of black cowboys and explore their significance to African-American and American culture.
