Montgomery County’s 24th Juneteenth Celebration will be held at the BlackRock Center for the Arts located in Germantown, Maryland. Montgomery County’s 24th Juneteenth Celebration will be held at the BlackRock Center for the Arts located at 12901 Town Commons Drive in Germantown on Saturday June 19th. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce that the Civil War was over and that the enslaved were to be freed. This community event is created to inform the community about an incredibly important moment in U.S. history that they probably never learned. This is a free family-friendly event and all are encouraged to “share the event” on their social media pages.
