Description

Passage/Home transforms The Wooden Floor's location into a multiplatform stage and and exhibition space. The Wooden Floor returns to live performance in triumph! The nation's top artists and designers work in collaboration to adapt the organization’s contemporary dance performance into a site specific spectacular for youth from low-income communities to again have the opportunity to create and express themselves. Using the organization’s Ernesto M. Vasquez-designed space, which our students refer to as their “second home,” these young dancers harness this platform for success they’ve always known and add their distinctive points of view to produce a poignant and ground-breaking experience. The Wooden Floor’s work has drawn national accolades and now reaches another level of artistic achievement, whilst emerging from the midst of the pandemic, showing the resiliency of our community and leaving audiences inspired. Passage/Home draws on The Wooden Floor’s inventive energy and transforms the organization’s flagship location into a multiplatform stage and exhibition space for ten separate performances which encompass dances, multi-media, and visual installations. Each vignette touches on its own subject matter, drawing from The Wooden Floor’s mission – past, present, and future. Passage/Home is about creative possibilities, exploring the unknown together, and welcoming audiences into our home away from home. Founded in 1983, The Wooden Floor is one of the foremost creative youth development nonprofit organizations in the country. We transform the lives of young people in low-income communities through the power of dance and access to higher education. In Orange County and through our national licensed partners, we use a long-term approach grounded in exploratory dance education to foster the confidence and gifts within each child to innovate, communicate, and collaborate – skills necessary for success in school and in life. 100 percent of students who graduate from The Wooden Floor immediately enroll in higher education. Our students become change agents and beacons of hope within their own families, their neighborhoods, our community, and our world.
