STONEHAM, MA — The effort to find a match for a longtime local educator's daughter hits town this week. Melissa Hayden is seeking a match for a stem cell transplant. Hayden's mother is Sandra Fulmer, a longtime teacher and assistant principal at Stoneham Central Middle School. Hayden has been diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia known as Philadelphia Chromosome Positive Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. Since February she has undergone chemotherapy, treatments, biopsies and tests. In honor of her and in hopes of helping find her a match, there will be a drive-thru event at the middle school on Friday, June 4, between 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., to get people on the national bone marrow and stem cell registry. People will need to fill out a short form and get a painless cheek swab — the entire process can be done from your car. People between the ages of 18-44 can register.
