WAUKESHA, WI— Waukesha Police responded to several reports of teenagers participating in nerf gun wars over the weekend. In the first incident, police responded to Sunset Drive on Friday for juvenile trouble. Cars being driven around by juveniles in the parking lot with no headlight. They said they were participating in nerf wars. There were advised of car lights and moved a long. Police responded on Saturday to a report of a group of juveniles running behind the apartment buildings at Grand and Collidge, pulling things out of the dumpster and also driving on the grass, the police log said. Police were called to a noise complaint on Saturday on Grand Avenue. A large group of people and 15 cars were in the lot playing loud music and driving around, the log said. The juveniles were playing nerf wars. Most cars left upon officers' arrival. Remaining cars were advised to keep the noise down and be respectful of others who live nearby, the log said. Also on Saturday, on Tenny Avenue, about seven cars, one of them is sideways in the road, several teenagers were all honking and yelling at each other. The caller told police there were lots of teens driving around and honking horns in the area of the school, some driving recklessly. Another caller observed two cars racing each other side by side, a third one was trying to get in line with them as well while racing. Police found a large group of teens playing nerf wars. They were all stopped and advised on reckless driving behavior and the dangers that it can pose. They were all cooperative and agreed to go their separate ways, the log said. On Sunday, police responded to Heyer Dr. for teens speeding through the residential area and popping out of the sunroof with super soakers. They were also honking and have been racing through the lot at Heyer school and the surrounding neighborhood, the log said. Police located the car at South High School. The driver and passenger told police they were playing nerf wars against the seniors. They denied popping out of the sunroof or racing up and down the street. Both were advised this is not acceptable behavior and to keep the nerf wars on foot, the log said. In May, Waukesha North High School reminded its students through a Facebook message of the athletic code of conduct. "As a reminder, the athletic code of conduct applies year round and off campus. Please make positive choices, activities like nerf wars can be fun until things go too far," the school said. "We work closely with the Waukesha PD to address student behavior in the community."
