Crashes In Hempstead This Weekend Leave 1 Dead, Many Injured

HEMPSTEAD, NY — Two car crashes in Hempstead over the weekend left one person dead and multiple people injured, Nassau County police say. The first crash happened around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday. Police say 27-year-old Tasha Brown, of Southern Parkway, Uniondale, was driving a 2016 Toyota Corolla with three passengers inside west on Front Street when she struck multiple parked cars near Hendrickson Avenue. A 29-year-old man from Massapequa was sitting in one of the cars that was hit and sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died at 5:26 a.m. All four people in the Corolla sustained injuries and were also taken to a hospital. Two of the passengers — a 28-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man — are in serious but stable condition. The third passenger, a 29-year-old woman, was treated and released. Brown was arrested at 4:50 a.m. and admitted to the hospital for her injuries. She was charged with second-degree manslaughter, second-degree vehicular manslaughter, DWI, four counts of second-degree assault, three counts of third-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment and reckless driving. She will be arraigned when medically practical. The second incident occurred at 11:46 p.m. on Sunday. Police say a 27-year-old woman was driving a 2007 Honda east near 555 Front Street when she struck a woman who was crossing the street. The woman suffered severe head trauma and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police have not yet publicly identified her. The driver remained at the scene, police said. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
