Police Announce Range Training In Southwest Puyallup

PUYALLUP, WA — The Puyallup Police Department says its officers will be conducting range training for much of the week. According to their announcement, the training may cause some noise in southwest Puyallup. The training runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. The extra training hours will help make up for training lost due to the pandemic. According to the police department's Annual Report 2020, the average Puyallup officer trained just 41.23 hours last year. In 2019, the average officer trained 86.80 hours. As the department explains, the state only mandated 24 hours of in-service training, but they're committed to making sure their officers are prepared for the job: "The Puyallup Police Department has a strong commitment to ensuring that officers are trained properly to protect the citizens of Puyallup and themselves," the department said.
