Man Shot After Pulling Gun On Officer: Phoenix Police

PHOENIX, AZ — A man is recovering from his injuries in the hospital after Phoenix police said he pointed a gun at an officer over the weekend. Around 5 p.m. on Sunday, Phoenix police responded to an order of protection violation on West Wood Drive. According to officers, a man's children notified police that he was in violation of the order, which was served approximately two weeks prior. When the first officer arrived, the man pointed a gun at him while exiting a screened area near the front door of the home, police said. The officer responded to the aggravated assault, exchanging gunfire with him. The man, who police has not identified, was injured. Additional officers arrived and took the man into custody. The officers began administering first aid until the Phoenix Fire Department arrived and transported him to the hospital. Police said the 42-year-old man is currently in critical but stable condition and will be booked on several charges after he is released. There were no injuries to officers or community members; however, there was an occupied home in the area which was struck by the man's gunfire. During the on-scene investigation, detectives said they learned that the man's vehicle had been set on fire and that he had taken a vehicle at gunpoint near 28th Drive and Cactus. Police said the man forced the victim from that robbery to drive him a few blocks away from the scene of the officer-involved shooting. The victim was not injured and drove away once the man got out of the vehicle. The investigation in ongoing, according to police.
