POSITION SUMMARY: Keeps assigned areas of the museum's indoor premises in clean and orderly condition by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Cleans and polishes lighting fixtures, marble surfaces, and trim.
• Cleans galleries, classrooms, offices, hallways, lobbies, rest rooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker
rooms, lounges, and other work areas as assigned.
• Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floor.
• Cleans rugs and carpets.
• Dusts furniture and equipment. Polishes metalwork.
• Washes walls, ceiling, and woodwork. Washes windows, door panels, and sills.
• Empties wastebaskets.
• Transports trash and waste to disposal area.
• Cleans bathrooms and replenishes supplies.
• Assists with museum special events as needed. May include setting up and taking down tables and chairs;
emptying trash containers; and cleaning area before and after event takes place. Remains on call throughout
event in case services are needed.
• Moves office furniture and equipment as needed.
• Performs other special projects as assigned by Group Leader or Supervisor of Building Services.
• Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to operate cleaning equipment, such as buffers, strippers, and carpet cleaners. Prior knowledge of cleaning products and materials helpful.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend; and talk or hear.
The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, work off of ladders and/or lifts. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
