El Salón Community Films Screening will take place at the JMAC/Worcester Pop Up on Thursday June 3rd, 2021 from 6:30PM - 8:30PM. Storytelling is essential to the social fabric of our communities. Join us as we watch the following films: Save The Bridge, directed and produced by Fernando Ponce, tells the story of The Bridge Academy and Community Center, its impact, its value in the Worcester community, and its collective fight to secure their physical home; Worcester’s last standing 19th Century Mills Building also known as The Sargent Card Clothing Building. Ejkei, directed and produced by Héctor Hugo Hernández and Javier Viqueira Keller, is the first feature-length documentary made about the history of skateboarding in Puerto Rico. The documentary shows the trajectory of this activity from 1970 through 2010 through the words of leading figures in the field. Worcester Free Fridge Series, directed by Fernando Ponce and produced by Nelson Artavia and Emanuel Pastor, tells us the story of Worcester’s communities coming together to help tackle food insecurity during 2021. 508: The Takeover, a documentary directed by Jeremy Hartman and Andi Lipo, outlines the narrative of a group of youth from Worcester, MA, who use biking as an outlet to stay out of the cycle of inner city violence. The Bookshelf, directed by Anhkim Dang. Anhkim doesn't read much, but is fond of books. This film was his first working at home experience, shot on an IPhone X and testing his mcgyver skills.
