Learn practical in water skills to stay safe in and around water this season. Texas ranks The Fort Worth Drowning Prevention Coalition's mission is to prevent fatal and non-fatal drownings in Fort Worth, and beyond. Texas ranks second to Florida for US fatal drowningsTarrant County leads the state in pediatric drowningsDrowning is the leading cause of accidental death of children 1 to 5 yrs of age70% of African American children, 60% of Latino children and 40% of Caucasian children have low or no swimming abilityThis program is a water safety and drowning prevention class for ages 3 to 103 y.o. If you already know how to swim this is not the class for you. Our partners with the City of Fort Worth, YMCA and The Fort Worth Swim School offer excellent and affordable swim lessons. Where: Forest Park Pool, 2212 Forest Park Blvd, Fort Worth, Texas 76110 When: June 8- June 17, 2021 (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays) Time: 7:30 PM- 8:10 PM All parents/caregivers will participate in water safety instruction led by subject matter experts while their students are in the water, NO EXCEPTIONS. We appreciate everyone's understanding that water safety is a family effort requiring multiple layers of protection. Curriculum Goals: Water Comfort - face & head in the waterFloating - demonstrated ability to float Tread Water - demonstrated ability to tread waterSafely travel 10 yards in waterState 3 of 5 rules of water safetyFAQs Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event? We invite any non-swimmer ages 3 to 103 y.o. to participate Do I pay for myself and my child to attend classes? No, only register non-swimming students. The parent/caregiver water safety education sessions are complimentary with the registration of your child. However, if you don't know how to swim, we want you in the water as a student! Whose name should I use to register? Please provide the name of the non-swimming student who will be in the water with us. What can/can't I bring to the event? Bring a swimsuit, towel and sunscreen for each participant. Swim caps and goggles can also be helpful. The FWDPC is a grassroots volunteer community collaboration operating as a nonprofit 501(c)3.
