Requirements & Qualifications: Valid First Aid/CPR Certification (or better) and/or ability to obtain and maintain within 30 days Excellent customer service skills Ability to effectively interact with the passengers, guests, and fellow employees. Ability to work in fast-paced, quickly-changing environment Ability to perform physically strenuous activities while having fun Ability to ask questions and follow directions Previous boating and sailing experience preferred Must be at least 18 years of age Deck hand Duties: Deckhands are subject to pre employment, random, reasonable suspicion, and marine incident drug testing per Coast Guard regulations. 46 CFR Parts 4 and 16, 49 CFR Part 40, 33 CFR 95 Deckhands primary duty is to the safety of the guests and each other which means maintaining a safe work environment, regular participation in training and emergency response drills, using proper work gear and personal protective equipment, advising and informing guests of unsafe activities and maintaining situational awareness. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Typical morning duties: Perform cleaning and custodial tasks board vessel, including cleaning the head, decks, bulkheads, nets, cushions up to several times each day. Also, other maintenance tasks as assigned such as oiling teak, cleaning sail covers, lines, life jackets, cleaning waterline etc. Ensure toilet flushes and vacuum pump shuts off. Assist with safely and responsibly pumping sewage and refueling. Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Maintain inventory of snacks, beverages, ice, towels, toilet paper, and other supplies and restock as needed. This may be a couple times per day or more. Inventory is stored in the main office and deckhands will need transport supplies approx ½ mile from the office to the boat. Deckhands should seek the highest levels of quality and professionalism. Typical daily activities before and during cruises: Handle mooring and dock lines for getting underway, mooring, and docking Responsible for raising and lowering sails for each cruise in all weather conditions including rain, wind, and sun. Assist in safely boarding and disembarking of passengers at the stairs. Assist with guest check-in on Fareharbor Perform lookout duties while underway, including watching for other vessels, persons or boats in distress and monitoring for potential unsafe conditions like floating debris or trash. Present professional level of customer service and appearance to all guests and associates. Monitor passenger and crew member safety issues on the vessel. Prepare and serve snacks and beverages continuously during each cruise, collecting trash immediately and several times to prevent it blowing into the Lake. Monitoring guests sobriety and serving alcohol responsibly. Report problems to Captain. Monitor guest movement to ensure they stay safe. Report problems to Captain Assist with directing guests during docking maneuvers. Guests must be seated during docking. After each cruise assist with removing trash, re-icing drinks, restocking beverages, cleaning and restocking the head. Other duties as assigned such as: Participate in training, drills and safety audits as required by USCG and company policy Develop understanding of all phases of safety procedures and knowledge of location and use of all firefighting and safety equipment (i.e. fire extinguishers, life preservers, work vest) as outlined in the station bill and posted emergency procedures Report safety related concerns to Captain. Assist with training of crew as directed. Seek continuous improvement GOAL: for half of crew members to qualify as senior deck hand per USCG COMDT PUB B 16700.4 NVIC 1-91 Captains opinion: Superlative customer service does not include being bullied, verbally abused or manhandled by guests. Report concerns to the Captain. Working in Tahoe provides great daily hiking, camping, cycling and water sport activities. The immediate area is surrounded by national forest meaning, while no campfires are permitted, camping is generally free. Company perks may include discounted boat, jet ski, paddle board and kayak rentals. Captains discretion perks include swimming off the boat during work hours and a beer or wine after work. You will be expected to work hard and you will get to play hard. We have a great support staff which works hard for the boat.
