Description

Assist yogini with her yoga classes and get paid to sleep! (0: Seeking Wonderful Yoga Assistant / Roommate for Inspiring Disabled Yogini. This is a fantastic opportunity to live in a lovely sanctuary type home and do part-time yoga or even full time work if desired, depending on what your interests are! The job includes a room in a charming 2 bedroom Mar Vista house, with use of kitchen and rest of house. There is a wonderful yard with a jacuzzi. We are seeking a wonderful, mindful, compassionate, intelligent, kind, warm-hearted, good-humored, good-natured, patient, reliable, focused woman who has energy, is physically strong and also has some similar interests as our daughter (described below) Other qualities necessary for this position are having an EXCELLENT work ethic, being neat and organized, being a good communicator, being health conscious and having a good driving record. No smokers please. This job includes being paid to be in the house with our daughter while she sleeps for 8-10 hours per night/morning This job includes putting our daughter through her yoga practice, either at a community yoga class (once the studio opens) or in a zoom class, 2 to 4 times per week, depending upon what we mutually agree upon. Occasionally during a yoga shift our daughter decides to take the time off to rest. On those occasions, you would be helping her in and out of the jacuzzi and stretching her out. It also includes being paid to be in the house with our daughter while she sleeps for 8-10 hours overnight (From about 10 pm-till 6 or 8 am, 5 times per week). You would basically be paid to sleep or or just be there during these hours, with the exception that you would need to take our daughter to the bathroom at night when she needs to go. She normally wakes up between 5 & 6:30 am (but sometimes at random earlier hours) and needs her person to walk her to the bathroom and put her comfortably back into bed. Usually this only happens once per overnight, but occasionally it can happen more. Also, if are daughter were sick (which she almost never is) or needed anything else (which she almost never does) during these hours, you’d need to be there for her. IF someone happens to be interested in extra hours, we are also looking for people interesting in caretaking hours and assisting our daughter with her education. She is interested in home learning in the subjects of different movement modalities, psychology, child development and possibly philosophy. If you wanted to do more than the yoga classes and sleeping over, we could see how you might fit in. Our daughter is a very sweet, interesting, ambitious and talented young woman who is very physically challenged with cerebral palsy. Her goal in life is to create a movement program for disabled people to help them enjoy movement at whatever level they can move. She LOVES yoga and practices 4 or 5 times per week. She also enjoys meditation, giving and getting massages, reading poetry, listening to music and hanging out with loved ones. While she is physically active, her disability is such that she can walk only with assistance, has limited use of her hands (so cannot feed herself), and cannot speak verbally, but communicates with either the use of a computer speech device or by using a unique method we call "partner-assisted spelling." Here is a video made about Eden a couple of years ago when she was doing sculpture: While no full body lifting is needed for our daughter, you do need to be strong to move our daughter around. Fortunately, our daughter is quite small (weighing approximately 73 lbs) but it still does take strength to move her around. Having your own yoga or other some kind of exercise practice to keep fit is important. If you have any issues with your back, this is NOT a good job for you. Regarding the room, it has its’ own private entrance, plenty of light and is attached to a large sundeck that overlooks the yard. It is currently furnished with a comfortable bed and a desk. ~A minimum commitment of 1 year is required, but we would prefer someone who will be around much longer. * We are looking for a very responsible person. That being said, it is possible for us to work with someone who has occasional travel or other short term commitments as long as we can work these things out in advance. Someone who worked with our daughter wrote the following and suggested I include this in my ads when looking for someone. She said: "I have been working with Eden for almost 3 years, and it has been one of the most fulfilling, rewarding, and worthwhile experiences of my life. I never expected I'd be involved in work like this, and I'm so incredibly thankful a friend introduced me to Eden-what a joy it has been! Eden is absolutely wonderful. She is hilarious, curious, bright, warm hearted, patient, sweet, silly, studious, and incredibly special. I have received just as much, if not more, than I give. Eden's family has embraced me with love and kindness, and the other women who work with Eden have become some of my dearest friends". Another person who worked with our daughter wrote this: I have incredible things to say about working with Eden and her family. I used to live and work with E for 3 whole years in my early twenties. I was house manager and lead trainer for all new aids including yoga. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made mostly because it’s a soul-nourishing position. Like all healthcare jobs, it has challenges but they were ones that have made me into the woman I’ve always wanted to be. Working w E is based on connection, communication, embodiment, and service—all foundations I find to be essential in my work now as a depth + Somatic psychotherapist. To apply: Please do not JUST send us a resume. We would love to see your resume, but please tell us about yourself as well. Give us a sense of who you are. Tell us about your interests, your goals, why you think you would be right for the job and why you think the job would be right for you. Thanks so much!
