We provide the wort & you turn it into beer. Put on your creative-brewer's hat for a chance to win some cool prizes! Attention homebrewers! We’re organizing a homebrew competition and we want you to participate so get your tickets now! THE SHORT VERSION: We’re going to create a batch of wort on Saturday, June 12 and split it up among a group of homebrewers. Those homebrewers will take the wort home to boil, ferment, bottle, etc. They’ll return with finished beer on Saturday, July 24 for judging and a tasting of the contest beers. There will be homebrews, Labyrinth brews, food, and cool prizes! Interested? Keep reading… THE LONG VERSION: The Labyrinth Wort Championship kicks off on Saturday, June 12. Contestants will receive 6-7 gallons of wort which they will then take home and turn into beer (subject to our official championship rules below). The entrance fee is $40 which includes 6-7 gallons of wort, a commemorative pint glass, and an extra ticket to the Judging/Tasting event on Saturday, July 24. (Plus a chance to win some cool prizes – see below) WORT PICK UP DETAILS: • Contestants will pick up 6-7 gallons of wort on Saturday, June 12, at 12pm. • BYO clean/sanitized container(s) -Absolutely no cleaning or sanitizing will be done here at the brewery WORT CHAMPIONSHIP JUDGING/TASTING: The actual Championship judging takes place on Saturday, July 24. • Contestants should bring back 3 gallons of finished beer for judging and the sampling event. • Bring a means to serve your beer (bottles, growlers, kegs & jockey box, etc) - - -Championship day Schedule (July 24): • 9am registration / setup begins • 10am-11:30am: Judging! • 11:45am: winners announced • 11am-1pm: tasting (until the samples run out) We’re inviting a small group of beer enthusiast to join us (tasting-only tickets available in the future) We’ll have a food truck on site around 11am if you get hungry. PRIZES: Our judges will taste and examine your brews to determine the top three brews. Then our taster ticket holders will vote for the "People's Choice" Prizes are as follows: • 1st Place: $100 gift card, an awesome trophy, and WE WILL BREW YOUR BEER and put it on tap here! • 1st Runner Up: $75 gift card, a pretty cool trophy. • 2nd Runner Up: $50 gift card, a cool trophy. • People's Choice: $50 gift card, an epic high-five. OFFICIAL WORT CHAMPIONSHIP RULES: Here’s what you can / can’t do with the wort: • Brew a single beer (no splitting the wort into multiple entries) • BJCP style guidelines mean nothing so get creative! • No wild fermentation but kettle sours are fine • Up to 15% fermentable adjuncts allowed (malt extract, various sugars, etc.) • No back sweetening with fermentables • No stabilization (no Sulfites) • No limit on non-fermentables, fruit, etc. • No fortification from spirits but wood soaked in spirits is okay.
