An Outdoor Kick-Off to Pride Month 2021 in Chicago A LEGACY OF PRIDEMonday, June 7th | 10:30a-11:30aThe Legacy Walk Outdoor Museum: Jane Addams Memorial3600 N. Halsted, Chicago, IllinoisHonored Guest SpeakersBroadcast Live on Social/Local MediaThough the ongoing COVID crisis has forced the cancellation or postponement of nearly all public Pride gatherings, Chicago is home to one of the most unique outdoor attractions – and the largest historically landmarked LGBTQ site – on earth. The Legacy Project has chosen Chicago’s newest historic landmark – “The Legacy Walk” – as the setting for this event – not only because it is safe and open-air, but to connect the history of PRIDE to the historically significant contributions and achievements of LGBTQ people. By gathering with Mayor Lightfoot among the Legacy Walk’s 40 bronze memorials commemorating LGBTQ contributions to World History and Culture – we will send a very powerful message about the true meaning – and importance – of LGBTQ Pride. The Legacy Project is a 501(c)3 cultural and educational non-profit committed to celebrating the contributions of LGBT people to world history and culture as a way to combat the ignorance which fuels anti-gay bullying. Through its permanent installation "The Legacy Walk", its traveling installation "The Legacy Wall", “Legacy Project Education Initiative” teaching tools, and its "Legacy LIVE" series of events and programs… the Legacy Project works to counter the damaging effects that have resulted from the redaction of LGBT people from shared human history.
