SAN DIEGO, CA — Three horses fell after a divider collapsed inside the trailer they were being hauled in on a freeway in San Diego Saturday. One horse was unable to get up on her own and was assisted by the San Diego Humane Society's Emergency Response Team. After the divider separating the horses went down, the owner of the horses pulled off of the freeway and into a parking lot on El Norte Parkway in Escondido, where he was able to get two of the horses to their feet, the San Diego Humane Society said in a statement. The third horse, a Fresian, was unable to stand on her own. At 2:30 p.m., the society responded with nine members of its Emergency Response Team and two Humane Officers. A veterinarian also arrived on scene to sedate the horse so she remained calm. The rescue crew erected an a-frame device to hoist the horse to her feet with ropes. By 4:05 p.m., she was on her feet and was able to safely load into another trailer to return home.
