Description

This year, for the first time in twenty-eight years, Park Slope United Methodist Church did not hold its annual Book Sale. We missed crowding books onto makeshift tables, and crowding in ourselves to browse and shop; we missed donating books, vowing we wouldn’t buy any more books, and then of course buying more books than we donated. We missed the books, and we missed you, fellow book lover, and we very much hope to see you again next February. Equally important, PSUMC missed out on a crucial source of funding. Some years the Book Sale has provided as much as ten percent of our church’s annual income—money that supports not just our regular functions and services, but our social justice advocacy (including the weekly Sunday Dinner we host for our neighbors in need), and the beautiful but aging building we share with the preschool Beansprouts. We’re surviving, but we could use some extra help. Well, THIS COMING WEEK, we can get that help—and even better: it still involves BOOKS! Starting Tuesday, June 1, PSUMC is running a special fundraiser in association with Community Bookstore, the beloved and legendary Park Slope independent bookseller. The setup is simple: From June 1-7, shop online at communitybookstore.net. When you check out, use the code PSUMC21. PSUMC will receive twenty percent of all sales made with that code! Easy as that! While orders must be placed online to use the code, you can pick the books up at Community Bookstore in Park Slope, at 143 7th Avenue, or Terrace Books in Windsor Terrace, at 242 Prospect Park West. You can also have your purchases shipped to you at home or anywhere in the world. So now is the perfect time to buy the thriller you’ll read at the beach this summer . . . that nonfiction book you heard about on the radio . . . the cookbook you’ll use for outdoor grilling . . . the activity book your kids will fill out as you travel. You can also send books as gifts to faraway family and friends—a great way to say “I’m thinking about you,” or to get a jump on Father’s Day Sunday, June 20 or buy gift cards that you can use for future purchases. This is a terrific opportunity to support two community institutions at the same time, and get plenty of good reading material in the bargain! Just remember to purchase the books from June 1-7, 2021, and to check out using the code PSUMC21. Thank you for your support, and we’re excited to see you at the Book Sale in February 2022! With best wishes, The Book Sale Committee Park Slope United Methodist Church
