Information via City of Stamford STAMFORD, CT — The Stamford Memorial Day parade and ceremony in Veterans Memorial Park, which was scheduled for Sunday at 11:30 a.m., has been postponed due to weather, according to an announcement from the City. A new date and time will be announced shortly. The City of Stamford's Patriotic & Special Events Commission, Stamford Veterans Park Partnership, Inc., and the Stamford Veterans Council are in agreement to postpone the parade and ceremony, which was supposed to conclude with the unveiling of the Gold Star Monolith, one of the final pieces of the over $5 million renovation of the Veterans Memorial Park. "This is disappointing for all of us, but the safety of the Gold Star Family Members, the veterans, and members of our community comes first," said Patricia Parry, Gold Star Mother of Navy SEAL Brian Bill, in the announcement. "We want to be sure the event provides the best opportunity for everyone to join together to honor and remember those men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, and due to the weather, tomorrow is not that day." Mark McGrath, Stamford's Director of Operations, Patriotic & Special Events, Stamford Transit District, and the WPCA Board, also expressed disappointment. "One pillar of Mayor David Martin's platform is safety and tomorrow's weather forecast poses concerns," he said in the announcement.
